Lower Back Pain Exercises – what you need to do

Lower back pain is so prevalent that really most people suffer from it to a greater or lesser extent at some point in their lives. For some it is extremely debilitating, completely ruining the quality of their lives through the severity of the pain and the constrictions in doing the activities that others take for granted.

As we know millions of dollars are lost at work through this problem. Some times it is caused by injury, sometimes through poor posture and at other times it the cause can be a mixture of emotional and physical causes.

Our experience of pain begins in the brain. Focussing too much on the pain can make it considerably worse.

You know that the worst possible thing you can do for your back is to stay in bed, and yet this was exactly the treatment most frequently prescribed by doctors until really quite recently. This is not the answer – it will exacerbate the problem!

Lower back pain exercises are what will significantly improve and speed up your recovery from a lower back problem. Consult you physiotherapist of for a tailor-made sequence of exerciese that will best suit your condition.

It is important to keep moving, because the less the muscles are used, the more they will either stiffen up or become so weak that it becomes a major difficulty to bring them back to normal functioning. This I have found to be true from my own experience with back pain. As the saying goes “If you don’t use it, you lose it!” and you certainly don’t want that to happen to your back muscles.

Specific exercises will strenthen and tone the back muscles, such as press ups, leg lifts, pelvic tilts etc.
